07H00 departure to Kairouan via Sbeitla of its Berber name Sufetula
The site of Sufetula presents a regular town planning where the rectilinear streets are cut to right angle and delimit reserved insulae for the dwellings. We notice there a forum which shelters in particular a formed capitole of three temples dedicated to the capitoline triad, Jupiter, Junon, and Minerve. In addition, the site counts a theatre well preserved, a thermal complex, temples, churches (one sees there baptismal tanks of a great beauty), a beautiful triumphal arch dating from the reign of Dioclétien, of the forts of the Byzantine time... In addition, to shelter the many and beautiful objects exhumed by the diggers, Sbeitla obtained an original antiquities museum !
Continuation to Kairouan : known by its mosques and its craft industry of carpet , famous in the world. Kairouan is founded in 671 by Okba Ibn Nafâa, propagator of Islam in Africa, Kairouan knew its golden age in IXth Century at the Aghlabides era and became a center of radiation in the Maghreb (North Africa). The city counts several religious monuments of which the large mosque Okba Ibn Nafaa, the mausoleum of the Barber companion of the prophet Mohammed.
The basin of Aghlabides is the large water tank of the town of Kairouan built in IXth century.
